·        Pequena the Burro         ASIN: B004A155AK
By Jami Parkison

“I’m only a burro,” says Pequeña. “Useless as a broken toy. Common as a washrag.” With that moment of self-doubt our shaggy little heroine begins a journey of self-discovery that will speak to any child who has ever wondered, Who am I? Where did I come from? Where am I going?

Pequeña’s wise friend Sabio tells her about the strength, the steadfastness, and the capacity for hard work that were the burro’s important contributions to the building of Mexico, and Pequeña soon gets a change to call upon that heritage and to probe that being a burro is a great gift.

Mexico City is the setting for Jami Parkison’s inspiring story, and the heritage of that metropolis leaps from every colorful page. She presents a grand tour of Chapultepec Park – a cultural treasure from the time of the Aztec emperors – and creates a festive grand finale for Pequeña’s story at the Día de la Independencia parade in the historic heart of the capital city.

Pequeña will introduce children to the heritage of the burro and of Mexico and spark their curiosity about the “gold and silver shoes” of their own heritage.
